Spesso per migliorare il nostro inglese bisogna lavorare sui dettagli. Ecco quindi una spiegazione dettagliata con tanti esempi su come usare correttamente nor e neither quando parli, scrivi o sei alle prese con una <a href=\"https:\/\/myes-staging.nohup.host\/it\/corso-inglese-online\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">lezione online di inglese.<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Usi di nor e neither in lingua inglese<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Partiamo subito con un fatto: come vedremo a breve, entrambe queste parole possono ricoprire diversi \u201cruoli\u201d in una frase (congiunzioni, avverbi, aggettivi, pronomi, e altro ancora), ma in tutti questi casi hanno sempre e comunque un significato negativo, ovvero indicano una assenza di scelta. Confronta <em>neither<\/em> e <em>nor<\/em> con i loro \u201ccugini\u201d positivi, <em>either<\/em> e <em>or<\/em>:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><em>Andy likes <\/em><strong><em>neither <\/em><\/strong><em>tea <\/em><strong><em>nor<\/em><\/strong><em> coffee; he prefers apple juice.<\/em><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>(<strong>negative meaning<\/strong>: a Andy non piace nessuna tra le due opzioni possibili)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><em>Tonight we can have <\/em><strong><em>either<\/em><\/strong><em> lasagne <\/em><strong><em>or<\/em><\/strong><em> pasta<\/em><em>, what do you prefer?<\/em><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>(<strong>positive meaning:<\/strong> \u00e8 possibile scegliere una tra le due opzioni possibili)&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>Neither<\/em> e <em>nor<\/em> come congiunzioni<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Abbiamo gi\u00e0 visto <a href=\"https:\/\/myes-staging.nohup.host\/it\/magazine\/esercizi-e-grammatica\/congiunzioni-in-inglese\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">quali sono le congiunzioni in inglese<\/a>; nel primo esempio visto sopra, vediamo che <strong><em>neither\/nor<\/em><\/strong> sono usati insieme proprio come congiunzioni e introducono due sostantivi (<em>tea, coffee<\/em>). In questa funzione possono tuttavia anche introdurre due periodi interi, come in questo esempio:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><em>That\u2019s enough!<\/em> <em>I will <\/em><strong><em>neither<\/em><\/strong><em> call you <\/em><strong><em>nor<\/em><\/strong><em> send you a message. It\u2019s over.<\/em><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><em>Neither\/nor <\/em><\/strong>indicano due opzioni non vere o che comunque non saranno realizzate. In italiano si tradurrebbero con &#8220;n\u00e9\u2026 n\u00e9\u2026&#8221;.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ricorda: dato che il significato \u00e8 gi\u00e0 implicitamente negativo, i verbi sono sempre affermativi! In inglese, <em>we can\u2019t say no two times<\/em>, ovvero non dobbiamo fare l\u2019errore di usare un doppio-negativo. Come in matematica, infatti, se moltiplico due negativi ottengo\u2026 un segno positivo!&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong><em>Correct<\/em><\/strong><strong><em>:<\/em><\/strong> <em>I can <\/em><strong><em>neither<\/em><\/strong><em> sing <\/em><strong><em>nor <\/em><\/strong><em>play instruments.<\/em><\/li><li><strong><em>Incorrect<\/em><\/strong><strong><em> <\/em><\/strong><em>(not + neither\/nor)<\/em><strong><em>: <\/em><\/strong><strong><em><\/em><\/strong> <em>I <\/em><strong><em>ca<\/em><\/strong><strong><em><s>n\u2019t<\/s><\/em><\/strong><em> <\/em><strong><em>neither<\/em><\/strong><em> sing <\/em><strong><em>nor <\/em><\/strong><em>play instruments.&nbsp;<\/em><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>Neither<\/em> e <em>nor<\/em> come avverbi<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Possiamo usare<strong><em> neither e nor<\/em><\/strong> anche come avverbi per indicare \u201c<em>also not<\/em>\u201d (nemmeno). In genere, <em>neither <\/em>\u00e8 usato con maggiore frequenza. Guarda questi esempi e nota l\u2019ordine delle parole che seguono:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><em>\u201cI can\u2019t swim!\u201d \u201c<\/em><strong><em>Neither<\/em><\/strong><em> can I. \/ <\/em><strong><em>Nor<\/em><\/strong><em> can I.\u201d<\/em><em> <\/em>Non diciamo: <em><s>I also can\u2019t.<\/s><\/em><\/li><li><em>Ruth didn\u2019t show up and <\/em><strong><em>neither<\/em><\/strong><em> did Kate.<\/em><em> <\/em>Non diciamo<em>: <\/em><em><s>and Kate did too.<\/s><\/em><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Come si vede da questi esempi, dopo <em>neither\/nor<\/em> si deve invertire l\u2019ordine di soggetto e verbo.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Native tip<\/em>: se vuoi sembrare pi\u00f9 <em>informal,<\/em> puoi semplicemente dire <em>\u201cme neither\u201d<\/em> (nemmeno io).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><em>\u201cI can\u2019t come tonight\u201d. <\/em><strong><em>\u201c<\/em><\/strong><strong><em>Me neither<\/em><\/strong><strong><em>\u201d.<\/em><\/strong><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>Neither<\/em> come aggettivo, determinativo o pronome<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ecco altri usi di neither (nor in questo caso non \u00e8 utilizzato):<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong><em>Neither<\/em><\/strong><strong><em> option<\/em><\/strong><em> works for me, we need to think of something else.<\/em> (adjective)<\/li><li><strong><em>Neither<\/em><\/strong><strong><em> of<\/em><\/strong><em> your hands are clean! Go and wash them again.<\/em> (determiner)<\/li><li><em>\u201cWhich one would you like?\u201d \u201c<\/em><strong><em>Neither<\/em><\/strong><em>, thanks anyway.\u201d<\/em> (pronoun)<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Analizziamoli uno o uno.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Nel primo caso, <em>neither<\/em> \u201cdescrive\u201d il sostantivo che segue (option); \u00e8 dunque usato come aggettivo.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Nella seconda frase, invece, dopo neither mettiamo <strong><em>&#8220;of&#8221;<\/em><\/strong> e in questo modo possiamo identificare o meglio \u201cdeterminare\u201d qualcosa.
