In inglese i modal verbs sono tanti e possono essere usati in maniera e con scopi parecchio diversi: ecco perch\u00e9 \u00e8 davvero facile confondersi! Per esempio must<\/em>\u00a0e\u00a0have to <\/em>possono risultare simili per certi versi ma allo stesso tempo sono caratterizzati da usi molto diversi che oggi andremo a scoprire. Perch\u00e9 \u00e8 anche in questi dettagli che si nasconde il lessico di un vero madrelingua.<\/p>\n

Have to<\/strong><\/em><\/h4>\n

Have to<\/em> si usa per[su_highlight background=”#d5dbfe”]obblighi molto forti, spesso dettati da un qualcosa di esterno[\/su_highlight]che rende necessario fare una certa cosa.<\/p>\n

E.g. I have to work from 9:00 to 5:00.<\/em><\/p>\n

E.g.\u00a0John has to wear a suit to work.<\/em><\/p>\n

Have to<\/em> con do\u00a0<\/em>\/does\u00a0<\/em>\/did<\/em> si usa nelle frasi interrogative e nelle negative.<\/strong><\/p>\n

E.g. What do I have to do to open a new bank account?<\/em><\/p>\n

E.g.\u00a0James doesn’t have to work on Sundays.<\/em><\/p>\n

E.g.\u00a0Why did you have to leave so early?<\/em><\/p>\n

Have to<\/em> pu\u00f2 essere utilizzato anche con will, might<\/em>\/may.<\/em><\/p>\n

E.g. I might have to babysit my cousin tomorrow evening.<\/em><\/p>\n

E.g. If we have some extra money this year we’ll have to plan a nice vacation.<\/em><\/p>\n

E.g. We’ll have to go to lunch sometime and catch up.<\/em><\/p>\n

* Nel British English l’espressione\u00a0I’ve got to<\/em> \u00e8 spesso usata in maniera alternativa a have to.<\/em><\/p>\n

E.g.\u00a0 I’ve got to go to the dentist tomorrow.<\/em><\/p>\n

Must<\/em><\/h4>\n

Possiamo usare must<\/em> per mostrare che siamo[su_highlight background=”#d5dbfe”]assolutamente sicuri che una certa cosa sia vera oppure quando si fa una deduzione logica basata su prove chiare ed evidenti.[\/su_highlight]\n

E.g. It must be nice to live near the beach.<\/em><\/p>\n

E.g. You must be Joe’s brother, you look identical!<\/em><\/p>\n

Must<\/em> \u00e8 simile ad have to<\/em> quando si tratta di dare la propria opinione a proposito di qualcosa che si ritiene sia necessaria.<\/strong><\/p>\n

E.g. I haven’t spoken to my grandmother in a long time. I must call her or I have to call her.<\/em><\/p>\n

Must<\/strong> si usa anche per regole formali e regolamenti.<\/p>\n

E.g.\u00a0You must obey the law.<\/em><\/p>\n

E.g. You must report suspicious packages to the police.<\/em><\/p>\n

* <\/em>Non si pu\u00f2 <\/strong>usare\u00a0must<\/em>\u00a0con il past simple.<\/p>\n

E.g. Yesterday we didn’t have much time so we had to hurry<\/em>\u00a0(e non we must hurry<\/em>).<\/p>\n

Ricorda: Mustn’t<\/em>\u00a0e\u00a0don’t have to<\/em>\u00a0sono completamente differenti!<\/strong>\u00a0<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n
You mustn’t do something<\/em>\u00a0significa: non\u00a0devi assolutamente fare una certa cosa (quindi non farla!).<\/strong><\/p>\n

E.g. You mustn’t tell anyone my secret.<\/em><\/p>\n

E.g. You mustn’t use a calculator during the exam.<\/em><\/td>\n

You don’t have to do something<\/em>\u00a0significa:\u00a0non c’\u00e8 bisogno di fare una certa cosa (ma puoi farla se vuoi).<\/strong><\/p>\n

E.g. Don’t worry you don’t have to bring anything to the party.<\/em><\/p>\n

E.g. We don’t have to finish the report this week.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n
