Chi ha una certa familiarit\u00e0 con l’inglese si sar\u00e0 spesso imbattuto in due paroline che indicano “un alto livello di qualcosa”. Mi riferisco a so <\/em>e such, <\/em><\/strong>che in inglese sono pi\u00f9 o meno l’equivalente di “very” e “really”,<\/span> ma che diversamente da queste ultime non possono essere utilizzate alla leggera dato che seguono regole ben precise. Continua a leggere e dissolvi ogni dubbio su so e such, e come si usa ciascuno dei due<\/strong> senza sbagliare, soprattutto se ti stai preparando per ottenere la certificazione B2!<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n\n

So e such in inglese: regole per utilizzarli al meglio<\/h2>\n\n

Usiamo spesso “so” e “such” in inglese per indicare very<\/em> o really, <\/em><\/strong>anche se vanno usati in modo diverso. Oltre a rendere la frase pi\u00f9 forte, danno enfasi a ci\u00f2 che viene affermato. Ma quali sono le regole che disciplinano l’uso di so e such in inglese?<\/span> Vediamole!<\/span><\/p>\n

  • So + aggettivo \/ avverbio | <\/strong>Usiamo so prima di un aggettivo o avverbio (mai col sostantivo) esattamente come rafforzativo di very.<\/em><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    She was so<\/strong> beautiful (= she was very beautiful).
    <\/span>He ran so<\/strong> quickly (= he ran very quickly).
    <\/span>The food was so<\/strong> delicious (= the food was really delicious).
    <\/span>The children spoke French so<\/strong> well (= the children spoke French very well).<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n

    • So + much \/ many \/ little \/ few <\/span><\/em>| <\/span><\/strong>Per indicare una quantit\u00e0 – che pu\u00f2 essere moltissima o pochissima<\/span>– lo usiamo invece prima di much \/ many \/ little \/ few<\/em>. Ricorda che occorre un sostantivo al plurale dopo many<\/em> e few<\/em>, mentre serve un sostantivo uncountable<\/em> dopo much<\/em> e little<\/em>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

      I ate so much.<\/strong>
      <\/span>I ate so much<\/strong> cake.
      <\/span>He had so many<\/strong> candies.
      <\/span>He bought so many<\/strong> books.
      <\/span>Why did you eat so little<\/strong>?
      <\/span>He had so few<\/strong> friends that he was very lonely.<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n

      • Such + sostantivo \/ aggettivo e sostantivo | <\/strong>Ok, ma come si usa such<\/strong>? <\/strong><\/em>Diversamente da so, pu\u00f2 accompagnare un sostantivo o un aggettivo con sostantivo.<\/span> In pi\u00f9, se \u00e8 presente l’articolo indeterminativo (a<\/em> o an<\/em>), questo va dopo such.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

        She was such a<\/strong> beautiful woman (= she was a very beautiful woman).<\/em>
        <\/span>NOT: she was a so beautiful woman.<\/em>
        <\/span>NOT: she was a such beautiful woman.<\/em>
        <\/span>He got such a<\/strong> good time in the race (= he got a very good time in the race).
        <\/span>It was such<\/strong> delicious food (= it was really delicious food).
        <\/span>The children spoke such<\/strong> good French (= the children spoke really good French).<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n

        • Such + sostantivo | <\/strong>Come si usa such?<\/strong>\u00a0 Puoi abbinarlo a <\/span>un sostantivo per mostrare la tua opinione in modo forte e deciso.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

          He’s such a genius!<\/strong> (= he’s a real genius \/ he’s very clever).
          <\/span>You’re such a teacher!<\/strong> (= you act in a typical way for a teacher).<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n

          • Attenzione: prima di so e such non vanno mai parole come <\/span>this, those, your, his.<\/em> So e such in inglese seguono immediatamente il verbo!<\/strong><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

            NOT: This so beautiful city. (Correct: This city is so beautiful<\/span>)<\/em>
            <\/span>NOT: Your so helpful friend. (Correct: Your friend is so helpful<\/span>)<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n

            • Per parlare di conseguenze di determinati avvenimenti, possiamo usare so e such in inglese con queste formule: ‘so… that…’<\/em> e ‘such… that…’<\/em><\/span>. Attenzione: non si pu\u00f2 fare lo stesso con very\u00a0<\/em>o really!<\/em><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

              It was so<\/strong> cold that<\/strong> the pond froze (= because it was very cold, the pond froze).
              <\/span>She felt so<\/strong> tired that<\/strong> she fell asleep on the train (= because she was very tired, she fell asleep on the train).
              <\/span>It was such<\/strong> an expensive meal that<\/strong> he didn’t spend any money for the rest of the month (= because it was a very expensive meal, he didn’t spend any money for the rest of the month).
              <\/span>They have such<\/strong> a lot of books that<\/strong> they need to store some of them in the garage (= because they have really a lot of books, they need to store some of them in the garage).<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n

              • Ultimo tip su come si usa such:<\/strong> possiamo metterlo prima di \u201ca lot (of)” per indicare una grande quantit\u00e0. A volte pu\u00f2 capitare di incontrare \u2018such a little + sostantivo’, ma questo avviene quando little<\/em> \u00e8 solo un normale aggettivo, come nel caso di ‘This is such a little apartment\u2019.<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

                He has such a lot of<\/strong> books.
